Redwood Privacy Fence Buying

Made Easier

Choosing the right fence

In order to find the perfect fence. You need to start by asking yourself 3 questions:

Is privacy important?

Why: There are fully private fences then there are semi private. There are fences no one can peep through then there are budget friendly fences with small gaps.

If you have answered yes find out if this fence style is perfect for you.

Do I want a budget friendly option?

Why: If a fence is just a fence and that's all there is to it. There's a solution for that too.

Will you be sharing costs with your neighbor?

Good fences make good neighbors. But who gets the nice side?

There's only 2 styles that make all the headaches go away. Because they look the same on both sides.

Traditional Dog Ear Fences (3 rail)

Is this for you?

Pros:

-Budget friendly

-Long lasting fence (light)

-Traditional look

-Strong frame (3- rail)

-Easy Repairs

Cons:

-Semi private (small gaps between pickets)

-Not a pet friendly option.

-Not good neighbor (one neighbor will get frame)

-Not HOA friendly (most of the time)

-Less sound proof

This is a perfect choice if a “fence is just a fence” for you. If all you want is to get it done, not too picky on style, and are ok having a semi private fence, then consider this budget friendly option.

However if you have pets or a pool, this might not be for you. Pets can see through gaps and this might cause unnecessary barking.

Also, consult your HOA (if you have one) before choosing this style as its not commonly allowed.

Good Neighbor (Board on Board):

Is this for you?

Pros:

-Full Privacy

-Higher sound proofing

-Good neighbor

-Beautiful Design

-Pet Friendly (kickboard)

-Strong frame

-HOA friendly

Cons:

-Repairs are harder

-Price difference vs traditional style

Summary:

Arguably the best looking fence style available. It is known as the ultimate goodneighbor fence since it looks the same on both sides. No fighting over who gets the “nice side”.

A bit more expensive than the traditional fence style but not by much. Its other perks definitely outweigh the few dollars per foot more you have to pay.

You can also add lattice to this to make it taller or even just to increase aesthetics.d

Horizontal Fence

Is this for You?

Pros:

-Increase curb appeal

-Easy Repairs

-Beautiful design

Cons:

-Expensive

Summary:

If you are considering a front yard fence, consider horizontal. It has a modern look that can increase curb appeal instantly.

However, it is a bit more expensive than other styles. So make sure you take your time to go over wood type, placement, and design.

Custom Fence

Is this for You?

Pros:

-Tailor made to fit your needs best

Cons:

-Probably expensive

Summary:

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take." — Lewis Carroll

If you have an idea in your head or even a pinterest picture of a fence you want to match. By all means get it done. Any type of fence is possible. All it comes down to is your budget.

Metal Fence

Is this for You?

Pros:

-Full Privacy

-Higher sound proofing

-Good neighbor

-Sleek look

-Does not rot

-Reasonable price.

Cons:

-Repairs are harder

-Not HOA friendly

Summary:

If you don't want to go through a fence replacement again in your lifetime. This is for you. It's all metal. No rot and no weathering. It's not the cheapest but not the most expensive.

Although… It's not common, and not for everyone, so you might have trouble convincing your neighbor to choose this style.
